Manage Stress for Better Brain Health

June 26, 2023 Posted by Precision Aging Network News

Stress is a part of the human experience.  Chronic stress can impact our daily lives and lead to serious physical and mental health consequences if not managed effectively. It can negatively impact memory and even increase the risk for dementias like Alzheimer’s disease. What can you do? Learn ways to manage stress including:

  • staying physically active, practice relaxation techniques such as mindful breathing and progressive muscle relaxation,
  • engaging in simple pleasant activities that you enjoy, and
  • staying socially engaged and rallying positive social support.

As May was Mental Health Awareness Month, take time to learn more at the National Institute on Aging’s Cognitive Health and Older Adults.
