As we mark National Men’s Health Month this June, it’s an ideal time to spotlight men’s significant health challenges and the ways they can enhance their well-being. Men are more reluctant to schedule routine doctor visits compared to women—only 60% make it a point to get an annual check-up, and 40% will delay seeking care until a serious health condition arises. The statistics are sobering: men face a 41% higher mortality rate than women and are more susceptible to major diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Mental health is an equally pressing issue for men, with 31% experiencing depression during their lifetime, yet only about 25% of those with depression seek professional help. Men are not immune to cognitive health concerns and are more likely to suffer a traumatic brain injury than women. During Men’s Health Month help remind the men in your life to take care of their health and emotional well being. Help us learn more about sex differences in brain health by encouraging them to join the Precision Aging Network!
